PLAYGROUND 002 / NATURE + SOUND
Fall Creek
A cairn at the water's edge. Lift a stone, find where it rests, and listen.

About this piece
A small cairn stands beside a creek in an autumn wood while a Stone in Focus MIDI study plays. Carry each stone, turn it and set it down until the stack holds; every stone sings its own note, and a rebuilt cairn brings the melody home. Heavier stones move with their weight, and the sun and moon follow a real day wherever you set Solar Time.
Field notes
Drag a stone to carry it, then aim over the stack and release to set it down. Scroll turns a held stone, and a tap gives it a nudge.
Larger stones lift slowly, lag behind the pointer and swing as they settle. The scene marks the cairn in balance once every stone holds.
Click the trees for a gust, the creek for water and the mushrooms for spores; hold a press to play stronger. Every touch is drawn from the chord that is sounding and lands on the beat. Scattered stones widen the echo and reverb.
Solar Time moves the sun and moon through a real day, starting in New York. Choose a 10-minute, 30-minute or one-hour day, spin the globe, or pick another place. The music darkens at dusk; after dark, crickets, fireflies and glowing mushrooms join along the banks. Around noon a shower sometimes passes, with rain on the creek and thunder in the heaviest of it; press R to bring the rain.
